🩵 Pouch Care Clinic
🩵 Pouch Care Clinic
Specialist nurse‑led support for people living with an ileal pouch, internal pouch or ipouch (aka J‑pouch / IPAA).
Our Pouch Care Clinic provides expert assessment, education, troubleshooting, and long‑term monitoring for anyone with an ileal pouch following restorative proctocolectomy. Whether you are newly post‑surgery or managing long‑term pouch function, our specialist pouch care nurses offer personalised support to help you maintain comfort, confidence and optimal pouch health.
🌱 What Is an Ileal Pouch?
An ileal pouch, also known as a internal pouch, J‑pouch or IPAA (Ileal Pouch–Anal Anastomosis), is a surgically created internal reservoir made from the small intestine. It replaces the function of the colon and rectum after their removal, most commonly due to ulcerative colitis or familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP).
The pouch stores stool and allows controlled bowel movements through the anus. Because the ipouch is made from small bowel tissue, it behaves differently from the colon and requires specialised care, monitoring, and support.
