Petya Marinova
(RGN, BSc, MSc, Nurse Prescriber)
Co-founder & Co-Director TWINS for iPouch & Stoma Patients Ltd
I qualified as a nurse in Italy in 2016, and have gained both medical and surgical nursing experience in Italy, Ireland and the UK, with a special interest in GI and Urinary systems.
In 2019, I joined St Mark’s Hospital Stoma & Pouch Care team, providing specialist nursing care for patients with internal pouch, stoma and enteric fistulae in both acute wards and in nurse-led stoma care and joint consultant clinics. I was appointed as the Lead Nurse of the Pouch & Stoma Care Department in 2022, where I continued to work on improving staff education, patient care and outcomes, as well as developing and implementing innovative flexible working to improve staff well-being and work-life harmony.
In 2022, I completed my nurse prescriber degree, which allowed me to enhance my practice as an independent nurse practitioner, and continue to provide excellent care for my patients, as I continue caring for patients with ileoanal pouches, stomas, and enteric fistulas.
I won a New Talent Management & Leadership Healthcare Honours Award in 2023 for co-authoring a stoma patient handbook, raising awareness for stoma and pouch care through educational programmes, service development projects aimed to improve patient care and outcomes, innovative ways of working, including flexible and remote working and digitalisation of services, as well as support, mentoring and coaching of my team.
I left St Mark’s Hospital in 2024. Guided by a passion for ipouch and stoma care, my twin sister and I, both advanced nurse practitioners in this field, decided it was the right time to set up our independent service and provide excellent care for our patients, and this is how the dream became a reality - TWINS for iPouch & Stoma Patients Ltd.
In January 2025 I joined the Royal Marsden Stoma Care team working as a stoma nurse specialist while continuing to work full-time in my own independent company - TWINS for iPouch & Stoma Patients Ltd.
I’ve been vastly involved in research, service development, publishing and presenting on national and international level, education. I have several publications in British and Italian nursing journals. I am also one of the co-authors of a Stoma Care book - "Stoma Care - A Guide for Patients".
I am part of the NICE Health Technologies Evaluation Programme - Late-Stage Assessment: One-piece closed bags for adults with a colostomy, as an expert in Stoma Care.
I am also part of the Clinical Advisory Board for stoma care.
I am an ASCN UK representative for the London Area and a Red Lion Group Committee member.
I present nationally and internationally at conferences such as Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society, Association of Stoma Nurses Care UK, World Council of Enterostomal Therapists, Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand, and Portuguese Association of Stoma Nurses.
